The Showrunner Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit series wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
