The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
