Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
