Law enforcement have released alarming footage illustrating a motorist performing hazardous drifting maneuvers on a roundabout during an unauthorized vehicle gathering, putting onlookers at significant risk of injury.
A 23-year-old from Southampton received a 27-week prison sentence, deferred for one year, after pleading guilty to reckless operation of a vehicle.
Additionally, the court imposed a one-year license suspension and ordered unpaid work along with a rehabilitation program.
According to police officials, the video was filmed at an unauthorized car meet in Portsmouth on 28 December 2024, featuring the individual operating a pink BMW.
“The video shows the shocking moment when a reckless motorist drifted around a traffic circle at an illegal car meet, while crowds looked on despite the risk of serious injury.”
Police representatives reported that more than two hundred violations involving unauthorized vehicle events in the region have been addressed in just over a year.
Notable statistics from the enforcement effort include:
An officer remarked: “Local people, drivers and our roads policing teams have had enough with these crowds of motorists thoughtlessly taking over streets and parking areas and we refuse to accept it.”
He added: “These events are not only a complete nuisance, but they also place participants and uninvolved individuals at risk of serious injury.”
He finished: “We will continue to take legal action against these drivers and I trust these recent cases serve as a warning: you will face consequences.”
