Bipin Joshi threw back a grenade from Hamas attackers before being taken hostage in the attack on Israel two years ago, states the other Nepalese student he protected.

"I may not have survived if both grenades had detonated. Bipin demonstrated courage and threw the device out," Dhan Bahadur Chaudhary shared with news sources.

He was commenting after the defense forces confirmed his companion's body as being among four dead hostages returned by Hamas under the Gaza ceasefire accord.

Bipin was 23 and working on a agricultural community when he was taken by Hamas into captivity along with 250 others on 7 October 2023. It's unknown how or when he passed away.

His loved ones prayed right up to the negotiation cutoff that he could be among surviving hostages released on the specified date, but he wasn't, and a day later their deepest concerns were verified.

Assault Details

Bipin, his friend and fifteen other Nepalese agriculture students had been in Israel for just over three weeks when their residence was assaulted.

"We were aware that there may be a conflict in Israel. But we had no idea that there may be any physical assault of that magnitude," Dhan Bahadur said. "We believed that there could be missile attacks and we would be safe if we stay underground, in the bunkers."

For the young individuals who'd been selected under the national "educational initiative" it was a great opportunity to make better lives for their futures and their loved ones in Nepal.

Dhan Bahadur credits his safety to Bipin's heroic actions.

"At the time of attack, multiple explosives were thrown near the bunkers. He [Bipin] picked up a device and threw it away; one exploded within. Due to that explosion, myself and four others were wounded," he says.

"Bipin was unharmed at that point. If both grenades had detonated, I would not have been speaking with you today."

10 of the Nepalese individuals were killed in the assault. Their companion was the sole person captured.

"The friends met for the final occasion when Bipin and others were being shifted to a different bunker," Dhan Bahadur says. "Since, after the injury, was immobile and I stayed in the initial bunker. I discovered that there were two attacks in the bunker where Bipin took refuge and was was held captive from there."

Personal Memories

The 27-year-old states he experiences profound grief after learning about his colleague's passing. Dhan Bahadur and his companion were classmates in their educational institution in their hometown, Nepal.

"His friends undertook all possible attempts from our perspective to secure his freedom. They did everything. But recently, we had to confront such shocking news. All of Nepal is in mourning. I do not know what to say. I have limited expression to describe my sorrow."

The survivor says Bipin and fellow students had the identical goal of making little savings and establishing their personal enterprise after returning from the educational opportunity in Israel.

"Bipin loved playing soccer and basketball. The friends would chat for extended periods about our ambitions and dreams. He wanted to achieve his physique in good shape and to purchase a new mobile phone. We even recorded a musical piece about companionship with a device. He also talked about showcasing himself in a music video."

Aftermath

On 14 October, the Israeli military said they suspected Bipin Joshi was "killed in detention during the first months of the war". There exists no method of externally verifying that.

But if it's the case, the survivor commented, the international community should ask Hamas about the reasons it happened.

The survivor mentioned he had not received any support from Nepal's government following his wounding but wished the host nation would assist Bipin's relatives.

The student's immediate relatives have not released any statement so far.

Video from the attack date depicted him moving inside a medical facility in the urban area. His family obtained no signs of survival for a twelve months, until the authorities shared a video of him in detention around November 2023.

Relatives characterized the footage as "proof of life" just moments before the ceasefire deal was finalized, and were hoping for a miracle.

Now in his hometown of Bhimdutta municipality the student's family are grieving after receiving information of his death.

Family Situation

The student's female relatives had gone to the US to advocate for the release of hostages, Bipin's cousin Kishore Joshi informed news sources.

The relative says the household has no words to describe the sorrow. "His mother and sister are returning from America on the specified day. The father is unable to express the pain in language."

Meanwhile it's uncertain when the student's remains will be repatriated to his relatives.

The nation is undertaking required arrangements to repatriate his body to Nepal, as it completed for the other students who perished, the country's ministry of foreign affairs said.

"We are all stunned by the information of the student's demise. In this period of grief [we] extend our {deep|pro
