LA Battles Unprecedented High Temperatures Just Days Following Severe Winter Weather.

In the wake of torrential rains that led to inundation across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now grappling with unusually high temperatures for this time of year.

Record-Shattering Readings

On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in central LA, according to the National Weather Service. This breaks the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established just last year.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on NWS charts for the region.

Public Health Alerts

The weather service cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice featured:

• Drinking plenty of fluids.
• Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.

A Sharp Weather Swing

This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a powerful storm system that battered the state earlier in the week. That system delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, triggering flash flood warnings for millions residents.

Tragically, the conditions also triggered a large avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.

Temperatures Easing

Forecasters predict a cooldown is expected. Readings were expected to decrease to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by Friday night.

Additional areas that hit the 90-degree mark featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to see the upper eighties.

For the weekend, central LA can see weather in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures on tap for the following week.
