Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
It said debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
