Cyclone the storm is projected to escalate to a uncommon highest-level cyclone as it turns in the direction of the Caribbean island, bringing deadly rapid inundation and mudslides.

This weather system, which had winds of up to 120 mph as of 6:00 AM GMT, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to make landfall by midweek, as reported by meteorological authorities.

Alerts of power cuts and disruption to utilities have been released as the hurricane generates up to thirty inches of rainfall and storm surges as high as 13ft above ground. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been told.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness commented: "I realize that there are countless citizens who are anxious, who are deeply troubled, and with good reason: worry is natural.

"But the most effective method to handle worry and any nervousness and concern is to be prepared."

Inhabitants are being advised to fortify their houses with sandbags and wooden boards, and to stock up on basic necessities.

Wider Consequences

Alerts are also in effect for regions of the neighboring country including the primary urban center, the neighboring country and eastern Cuba, where this storm is expected to bring similar effects by the midweek period.

Landslides already being caused by the storm have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Expected Path

Melissa is predicted to cross Cuba by Wednesday before traveling via the Caribbean archipelago and entering the Atlantic.

By the moment it reaches Cuba, it is forecast to have diminished to a Category 3 cyclone.
