Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
